Look what I can do!

I can get my own toys.

I can crawl into the underneath of the exersaucer.

I can tip over the toy basket and end up with the basket over my head. This one is not so fun!

I can drive a car!

Just kidding, I am only pretending to drive.

New York

We're back in New Hampshire after a fun long weekend in NYC and Connecticut. Sadie had a great time with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Jenny, Friend Kevin, Auntie Lolly and Friend James. Some highlights were the swings in the Ridgefield Playground, a bath in the sink with Aunt Jenny, seeing Auntie Lolly's apartment, breakfast at EJs with Mommy and Daddy, walking through Central Park and looking at everything with big eyes.

Most of all, Sadie enjoyed her first concert...Stephen Malkmus and Yo La Tengo in Battery Park.

Getting excited...

Summer is fun. Yesterday, Sadie's Nana visited her and they had a great time visiting King Arthur Flour and walking around Hanover. Today, Mommy and Sadie signed up for summer swim classes. We're excited about that. Tomorrow, we're all headed to Connecticut and then to NYC for the 4th of July long weekend.

Hot times at Wolf Road

It's hot here and the weekend is forecast to be even hotter...90s on Saturday and Sunday and then warm and humid into next week. Thank goodness for the baby pool!

Babbling Baby

Sadie grabs for the camera on the lawn

It's movie time again! I realized that a lot of you probably hadn't heard Sadie's funny little voice. So I made a movie of Sadie lying on the lawn enjoying the nice weather and babbling away. Enjoy!

Happy Father's Day

Dear Daddy,
Happy Father's Day to you! I am a very happy baby to have you as my Daddy. When I see you smile at me, I know you really love me as much as I love you.
Being with you is always a fun time. You are the best at getting me to laugh with funny noises and tickles and great games. I like when you give me a ride on your shoulders or carry me in my Bjorn. You always make sure I see and do interesting things, like yesterday when you showed me the baby cows. We're special friends, you and me.
I don't think all babies have such a good daddy as you, so I know I am lucky that we are so happy together, Daddy!
I love you so much,
Love,
Sadie

PS Happy Father's Day to my terrific grandfathers, Grandpa in New York and Grampy in New Hampshire! I have the best family!

Sadie loves to swim!

It was so hot this weekend that we had to buy Sadie a swimming pool. She loves it!

I also put up a short movie of Sadie in the pool splashing around. If it won't play on your computer, try downloading the latest version of Quicktime.

Birthday Party!

On Friday, the Stern Center held a birthday party for all the babies born to Stern Center staff in the past year: Maddie, Olivia, Lily, Jayme, Nathan, Sam and Sadie herself. At six months, Sadie is the youngest.

There was cake.

Today

This morning, a lady at Bagel Basement said I was a cute little girl and then asked me where my hair was. That was a little mean, don't you think? Then, she tried to make me smile at her. But I didn't smile. Because she insulted me.
I can't help it if I'm still mostly bald. Mommy and Daddy think that I'm beautiful just the way I am.

Science

As of today, we're now members of the Montshire Museum, so we can go back as much as we want this summer. Sadie had a great time looking at all the exhibits and especially enjoyed the fog table and the outdoor exhibits. We'll have even more fun with them when it's warmer out and we bring a change of clothes so Sadie can enjoy the water activities.

I had an exciting weekend!

I had a really fun and exciting weekend. Let me tell you all about it, starting from Sunday and going back.

Sadie on her playdate with her pals

On Sunday, I went to my friend Joseph's house for a little tea party. Two of my other friends came too, and of course the Mommies and the Daddies were there. It was interesting to see Joseph's toys. He has some that I have and also some others that I liked looking at. He shared very nicely. I am the youngest of my friends, so they can do some interesting things like sit up and push up onto all fours. I'll do those things soon. Here I am, taking a break from the toys and my friends to look at Mommy. Next to me is Joseph and next to Joseph is Natalie. Sitting up behind us is Tavyn.

On Saturday, we went lots of places with my friends Beth and Jake.
The Ben and Jerry's Factory was a little bit boring.

Sadie sleeps in her car seat with her Ben and Jerry's tour ticket

The Alchemist brewpub was a lot more fun. I love to grab for beer glasses, but no one ever lets me have any beer.

Sadie tries to drink Daddy's beer

I also liked playing at home with Beth. She's so nice to me!

Sadie plays on Beth's lap

I'm looking forward to lots of fun things this week. Nana and Grampy are visiting me on Thursday and Grandma and Grandpa are coming to see me on Friday and will stay all weekend!

Happy Mother's Day!

Sadie asked me to wish all of the mothers and grandmothers out there a happy Mother's day.

She especially wanted me to tell her mommy how much she loves her and appreciates all that she does for her: from the natural childbirth to the nursing to going back to work to support the family and playing and driving her around, mommy does so much and Sadie doesn't get to thank her enough!

In honor of the occasion, here is a big new album of Sadie pics!

Friends, friends!

Cool Aunt Jenny came all the way from London to see me! And Kevin came to see me too! Actually, Kevin came to roast a pig with his old fraternity pals. Daddy says they won't roast me, even though I'm pink and chubby and cute like a little piglet.

Guess what? I'm typing this from Baker Library. I'm all grown up.

5 months old...and busy!

Monday was Sadie's five month birthday. She's kept herself very busy trying to fit everything in her mouth. If it doesn't fit in her mouth, she'll drop it and stick her fist in her mouth instead. Daddy and Sadie both laugh like crazy when Daddy pretends to eat Sadie's hands and cheeks. New foods for Sadie are oatmeal and sweet potatoes, adding on to rice cereal, applesauce and, of course, milk! She'll be trying carrots in the next few days. She's also practicing sitting by herself. She uses a Boppy pillow to help her but she's almost there!

Sadie's perfect evening...

After Mommy picked me up today, I got to play outside on the deck because it was warm out.

When Daddy got home, we went into town for Ben and Jerry's Free Cone Day. I had vanilla. Yum!

Mommy, Daddy and I went out for calzones and beer. I admired Daddy's beer.

I had a catnap while Mommy and Daddy went to the bookstore, then we came home, I had dinner and I went to bed.

4 Months old...

Sadie is 4 months old. She continues to be lots of fun for us. She's changing and learning everyday; it's amazing to see how much she has changed in less than 20 weeks of life and how quickly she masters new skills.

Some recent developments:
*Rolling: Sadie rolls easily from her back to her tummy. She's still not too good at rolling from her front to her back. This presents some problems because she doesn't always love being on her tummy and she doesn't know how to get herself back onto her back.
*Grabbing: Within the past two weeks, Sadie has gotten great at grabbing. She will reach out and grab toys. She's also grabbing hair and earrings. Her arm strength has really improved. She can now hold on to toys for a while.
*Mouthing: She loves to put everything in her mouth! Luckily, she's not "mouthing off" to us...that will happen in 11 or so years. Around two weeks ago, she was sticking her fingers so far into her mouth that she would gag. I think she's grown out of that silliness now.
*Opinions: Sadie has developed a little whiney cry that means "I'm bored" or "I don't like this". She'll also give a whine if we're not paying enough attention to her. And she definitely recognizes her parents! What a thrill to see her face light up when we walk in the room or when she hears our voices.
*Eating: Over the last week, we've starting giving Sadie some baby foods. She definitely enjoys the process and loves her high chair, but we're not really sure how much rice cereal is making it to the tummy. Baby applesauce evoked big smiles and she licked the spoon, but again, we're not sure if it's actually being swallowed. At least we're having fun!
*Talking and laughing: We're hearing lots of fun vocalizations these days and some lovely giggles. Also, a delighted shriek of joy has emerged. It sure is high pitched.

Although her pictures show a very chubby little face, Sadie is exactly average size, in the fiftieth percentile for both length and weight. She is 2 feet, 3/4 inch tall (24.75 inches) and weighs 14 pounds, 9 ounces, or maybe a little more, since she was weighed last week.

Her eyes are blue. They are a darker blue than mine, but still blue. Her doctor said she would have her final eye color at 6 months, so they may yet change. Hairwise, Sadie is pretty much bald. Her hair looks like it may be a light brown color, but there is so little that it's hard to tell. She has dark eyelashes and light reddish brown eyebrows. Her skin color is very pale, like her Mommy, but she's been indoors for most of her life, so she may end up darker. We think her features and expressions are like her Daddy. When she's not smiling, her face looks very serious and thoughtful. We think she's a beautiful girl.

Sadie the hacker...

Here's a picture of Sadie playing with AlphaBaby. It's a program that puts colorful shapes on the screen and plays sounds whenever you press a key. Sadie is extremely interested in this game. Soon she'll be typing 60 words per minute - I hope she doesn't hack into NORAD by mistake and start a global thermonuclear war! I highly recommend this program to those of you with a baby and a Mac.

Sadie likes warm weather

Last weekend, Ann, Sadie and I went to Florida for a short vacation with Ann's family. We had a great time. When we got there, Sadie looked a little bit confused - I don't think she had ever seen so much green in her life. She was wondering "why weren't mommy and daddy dressing me in 10 layers of clothing to go outside and what is this crazy giant bathtub that I get to play around in and what is that white frozen drink mommy has with the big pineapple piece sticking out of it?"

Here are a couple pictures from the trip:

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Dear Daddy,

Happy birthday to you!

I am so glad that you are my daddy. We always have such a fun time together. I like all the fun games you invent to play with me. I think my favorite is when you walk towards me making a kissing noise and then I smile when I notice you. That's really fun! I like to listen to all kinds of music with you and dance around.

I love how you are also very helpful to me, like when I need a clean diaper, or when I feel like drinking a bottle, instead of eating with Mommy. I love to fall asleep in your arms. I like riding around with you in the Bjorn, especially now that you let me face out and see all the fun stuff.

I am lucky to have a daddy like you!

Love and kisses,

Sadie Eleanor

Sitting pretty...

Sadie looks very grown up sitting in her jeans. We're snowed in today and the snow keeps on falling. This is what I expected the whole winter would be like in NH. Sadie's having a nice day of napping and playing, giving us lots of pretty smiles and baby noises. We took her out in the snow, which wasn't a big hit, probably because she was hungry. Maybe we'll try again tomorrow. Here is an Ofoto album with some more pics!

Ladies and Gentleman...Sir Elton Sadie!

Sadie's most recent ambition is to be a pop singer, preferably the next Elton John.

We think she's well on her way to that goal.

Doug and Kristin are moving to California. We're excited about all their opportunities and new adventures ahead, but we have to admit that we're going to miss them and wish they were staying on the East Coast. Dan, Sadie and I went to Concord over the weekend to get together with Doug and Kristin and Jake and Beth and have a nice time together before they moved.

Doesn't Beth look very natural with Sadie? As Dan's grandmother would say, "She's got the touch!". And Kristin too...although Beth managed to get the baby for this picture.

Busy, busy!

It's been a busy week while Mommy's on vacation. Lots of fun with friends.

Thursday night, Laurie, Christopher and Aili came over for dinner. It's nice to know that someday, Sadie will start to enjoy more of her many toys. Three year old Aili affirmed that they were indeed fun toys and showed Sadie how to play with them. Sadie responded by drooling.

On Friday, we had a playdate at the Montshire Museum of Science with Holly and Ayla. Sadie looked around at everything. Ayla showed her all the fun things for babies, especially the moose! I think we'll be joining the Montshire this summer just as Sadie gets old enough to play with the interactive baby exhibits and enjoy the outdoor fountains.

And today we had friends come for brunch. Dustin and Katy met Sadie for the first time and Sadie had a terrific time playing with Katy. She also loved the big stuffed doggie that Dustin and Katy brought her. Hard to believe, but pretty soon, Sadie will be bigger than the doggie, rather than the other way around. Adam stopped by too, so we got to see the entire family, even though it was Holly and Ayla yesterday and Adam today.

And now we're relaxing at home...Sadie has discovered that you can put the toys from the playgym in your mouth. This is endlessly interesting.

Sadie, Piglet in the City

Sadie made her first trip to NYC to visit her Grandma and Grandpa this past weekend. She got to check out The Gates - as we passed under each one, she followed the flowing orange fabric with her eyes (well, for the short time that she was awake). I guess we can say that Sadie is a modern art lover.

She also got to meet her Aunt Lisa and family for the first time, and saw Great-Grandma Bev for the first time since she was one day old. Everyone loved her smiles!

Sadie told me the best part of her trip was when she got to play with Grandma and Grandpa while Mommy and Daddy went out on a date. ;-)

We'll have an Ofoto album later with lots of pics, so stay tuned.

We're off to see the Gates

Dan, Sadie and I will be leaving NH shortly and heading to NYC for the weekend. I'm really looking forward to showing Sadie the big city where her mommy grew up and letting her New York grandparents have the chance to enjoy her without making the big drive up to see us. We're also looking forward to seeing the Gates in Central Park.

Sadie is now 11 weeks, 1 day old. She can do the following things:
Smile
Squeal
Push up with her arms when on her tummy
Roll over when she is on her tummy (only a few times so far!)
Make a click sound like in the African languages that have glottal click (ex: Xhosa!)
Make the hard "g" sound and produce the following "words": egg, goo, ga, aaagh
Cry
Eat
Make dirty diapers
Stick hand/wrist into her mouth
Sleep 6+ hours at night
Sneeze
Cough
Kick her legs
Hold onto a toy for a short time
Be extremely cute, cuddly and lovable!

Famous Sadie...

While at the beer fest last month, Sadie attracted a lot of attention. The brewers at Offshore Ale especially liked her Baby Bjorn decorated with a Offshore sticker.
