Music!

The Farmer's Market music this week was a small a capella group who walked around the market singing in various locations. Sadie would have been happy to follow them around all day. They sang "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid and she was thrilled.

(Sadie looks really cute in this pink hat, but it makes it hard to get a picture of her because the hat shades so much of her face.)

Farmer's Market!

Originally uploaded by Dan and Ann
Finally, a Saturday with nice weather, which means that I really want to go to the Farmer's Market and that I will be grumpy all day if I don't go. So, we went.

Sadie didn't want to leave. She walked all around. She helped us choose some hanging baskets of flowers. She sampled every available kind of cheese, bread, etc. She refused to sample any jam or jelly but she ate a plain saltine while we sampled jams. She may be the only 3 year old I have ever heard of who does not eat jam or jelly in any permutation.

Here, she is buying a bottle of local honey. Yum.

Friday with Mama

nice expression
Fridays are Mama-days* for Sadie...we spend the day together doing a combination of errands and something fun. Today was a very typical one...errands, a morning snack at King Arthur Flour, a few more chores and then Library Lunch at the Norwich Public Library. Sadie almost always falls asleep in the car on the way home from the library and naps for a couple hours. After nap, we usually go grocery shopping.

These pictures are from the outdoor eating area at King Arthur. In the second one, Sadie said, "I am going to pretend to wonder where I am."

*The possibilities are school-day, Mama-day or family-day...occasionally, there is a Buddy-day, which is what Sadie calls a day with Dan. More often, there is Buddy-time during a family-day.

Sadie's Plans for the Future

"When I am sixteen, I will walk in the parking lot without holding hands with you, Mommy, and cross the street by myself and drive a car. And drink chocolate milk and when I am seventeen, I will be a doctor."

Artwork

This drawing is entitled "Two Bags with Stuff In Them (One for Mommy and One for Me)". Sadie has been doing a lot of chalk drawings lately...I am trying to photograph my favorites because she erases them very quickly.

Exploring Baker Library

When Dan came home and told me that there was an exhibit of Maurice Sendak's illustrations on display at Baker Library, I knew Sadie would love to see it. In addition to long-time favorite Where the Wild Things Are, Sadie has recently enjoyed several longer books illustrated by Maurice Sendak, specifically the Little Bear series and No Fighting, No Biting (both by Else Holmelund Minarik). She was thrilled to see all those books on display and recognize the pictures.

There were also some other books displayed that Sadie did not know, like In The Night Kitchen and, most intriguingly, Outside Over There. In this picture, she's clutching a postcard from the exhibit illustrated with a picture from Outside Over There. We read the book later that day at the Norwich Library and Sadie was completely absorbed by this story of big sister Ida who doesn't keep good watch on her baby sister, leading to the baby being taken by goblins and replaced by an ice baby. Luckily Ida is able to find her baby sister and bring her home safe and sound. This story made a big impression and Sadie is still talking a lot about it.

We also visited the Dr. Seuss room at Baker. I showed Sadie how the college students at Baker use wooden planks across the arms of their chairs to make desks. She thought it was pretty cool.

homework

Lucikly, I had a pen and a little notebook in my purse so she could do some "homework".

Sadie's Favorite Phish Song

Here is a video of Sadie and me singing her favorite Phish song.

Bathtime Goofiness

Sorry for the lack of posts. We have been busy and I haven't had a chance to take many pictures. This one is from a couple of nights ago. The washcloth on Sadie's head is a "cooking veil" that she needed to wear because she was making "big soup and small soup and root beer with soap!"

We're looking forward to this weekend because we have no plans. It will be nice just to relax around the house and spend time together. The Farmer's Market starts for the season on Saturday and maybe we'll go if the weather is decent.
