Just like her big sister, Helena loves noodles. She is becoming more and more determined to feed herself and less and less wiling to let us spoon food into her mouth.
Even though she has only two teeth (bottom front) she can manage quite nicely with many kinds of food. She ate a good portion of a bagel for breakfast this morning and probably would have finished it if it hadn't been time to leave for daycare...she likes her bagels plain and straight from the freezer!

NH Maple Syrup Open House Weekend
Every year, there is a weekend at the end of March which is the Open House weekend for sugar houses. You can go visit and see the syrup boiling and have free samples. Last year, we found a great place, Little Stream Sugar Works, and we went back this year, bringing the Isaac family along.
It's in a residential neighborhood in West Lebanon...you would never believe there would be a sugarhouse, but there it is, right in the guy's backyard!
And the syrup was delicious!
It was Helena's first time riding in the baby backpack. She loved it. She also loved the syrup...we only let her have a little taste.

Catching Up...
We had a very busy week, but are finally catching up. Monday was Dan's birthday. We made him a cake and had a nice celebration.
Happy Birthday, Daddy! We all love you so much!
We're looking forward to nice warm Spring weather and lots of fun plans for the spring, including a visit to Grandma and Grandpa, Jenny and Andy for early Passover, Passover with Isaac and Naomi's family, a visit to Nana and Bob Bob for Easter with the cousins and great-grandparents and Auntie Kara for Easter and lots more stuff too.
We were also very excited about the birth of a new friend on Tuesday. Welcome Liam Richard and congratulations to Kristin, Doug and big sister Riley!

Iditarod
Sadie's class theme for March is "Dogs" and one of the activities has been to follow the Iditarod. Each child picked a musher, choosing one whose name started with the same letter as their own. Sadie's musher was Sebastian Schnuelle, who ultimately finished second.
Today, as a conclusion to this unit, their teacher Jennie brought in her dog, Niki, and a dogsled. According to Sadie, Niki is a sled dog "who grew out of doing that and is now Jennie's pet but she pulls a sled for Jennie."
Sadie gets ready:
She wanted me to tape a race number on her jacket this morning:
Sadie says "Hike" to Niki to get her started:
Switching to sitting on the sled for a ride:
So fun!
Thank you Jennie for bringing in Niki. What a great experience!

Friends
Naomi and Isaac (and their mom and dad) came over for dinner tonight. It was cute to watch Nellie playing with her friend. As they get older, we hope they will get along as well as Sadie and Isaac do. They seem to enjoy each other's company already.
Nellie is feeling much better. She is cheerful and having fun. We're starting to see a little cruising around furniture...maybe she will be an early walker like Sadie (and Dan!).

Happy St. Patrick's Day
From our little leprechaun to you! Sadie was very excited to wear these fun holiday clothes from Nana. I hope she likes her lunch...I packed lots of green items (veggie booty, edamame, bagel in a green tupperware, etc.) and a leprechaun note.
(Our littler leprechaun has an ear infection and is staying home from school today so she's not dressed her St. Patrick's outfit).

Sadie and Art
Sadie is taking a drawing class at her daycare right now and really enjoys it. One of her regular teachers is also a children's art teacher and is offering a class on Monday afternoons.
It's so interesting to see Sadie learning about drawing. Up until now, she has always liked to draw, but recently, she has been trying look closely and to draw what she sees and has also begun to practice drawing repeated designs and shapes. In the last few days, she produced an amazing picture of a flock of birds (inspired by some birds she saw on TV) and a great drawing of a sled dog (her class at school is studying the Iditarod).

Product Review
This is my first time reviewing a product because this was my first time I was given an item to try and then review on my blog! I was given a very nice set of MilkBank products. These are a new brand of bottles and storage containers for breastmilk. Since I'm working, I pump milk for Nellie and she drinks it the next day at daycare.
My favorite thing about the MilkBank products is the vacuum pump for the storage bottles. You put the milk into the bottle and then use a little pump to pump out the air. It's like one of the those vacu-vin wine savers, if you have ever used that. The milk stays fresher and there is a very satisfying pop sound when you open up the milk later on.
I also like that it's orange and white...fun looking! The one drawback is that you can't pump the milk directly into the MilkBank bottles. Thanks for letting me try this, citymama. I really like it and am using it a lot. I would buy this as a gift for any mom who I knew was going to pump.
